「得体の知れないエネルギー、カオスの時代―桃山サンバ」 An Age of Mysterious Energy and Chaos: “Momoyama Samba”

あったが、その後「桃山時代」とこれほど関わる
とは思っていなかった。当初は桃山時代を、
華麗で優雅な時代ぐらいに考えていたが、
実際はまだ戦は続いており、誰もが何者
にもなりうるカオスの時代という一面があった。
わずか四十年間にあのエネルギーの集約、爆発。 茶の湯、絵画、陶芸、漆芸、辻が花、歌舞伎 ……。庶民も巻き込み日本文化のマグマが一気に 吹き出していた。その一大スペクタクルを知り 陶芸というジャンルだけでなく、芸術家として あの得体の知れないエネルギーと精神に 突き動かされ、今の私の仕事スタイルになっていた。 山田和 Born into a family of potters, I never imagined that I would one day feel such a deep connection with the Momoyama period. At first, I thought of it merely as an era of elegance and splendor. Yet in truth, the wars had not ended; it was also a time of chaos, an age in which anyone could become something, full of raw and unbounded energy. Within only forty years, that energy was both concentrated and explosively released. Tea culture, painting, ceramics, lacquerware, tsujigahana dyeing, kabuki theater— the very magma of Japanese culture erupted all at once, embracing even the common people. Encountering this grand spectacle, I came to be moved not only as a ceramic artist but as an artist inspired by that mysterious, unknowable energy and spirit— forces that continue to shape my creative style today.
