このたび桃青京都ギャラリーでは、九谷焼の技法をベースに自由な発想でかたちを探り続けてきた陶芸家・齋藤まゆの個展「記号 / Sign」を開催いたします。

齋藤は、陶芸作品を“焼きもの”としてだけではなく、ひとつの造形物として見てほしいという願いを込めて「記号 / Sign」という言葉を本展のタイトルとして選びました。
この「記号 / Sign」は、それ自身が意味を持つのではなく、それを解釈することによって意味が立ち上がるという考えに基づいています。
言い換えれば「記号」とは、それ自体ではなく、受け手の感性や解釈によって成立する“意味の媒体”です。
何かが固定された意味にとどまらず、見る者それぞれの文化的背景、環境、経験によって異なる意味を帯びることや、一つの作品が見る者によって多様な解釈を生み出すことーーそれは現代社会における価値観の多様性や複雑さ、そしてその中にある対話の可能性をも映し出すのかもしれません。
齋藤は、陶というメディアを通して私たち自身の感受性と想像力に静かに問いかけます。
目の前にある造形物に「記号 / Sign」という言葉が与えられたとき、私たちは何を見て、どんな意味を見出すのでしょうか。その答えは、私たちそれぞれの中にあります。

本展では上記のテーマを意識した作品に加え、茶器や酒器なども展示いたします。
これらの作品と向き合うことで、ご自身の内面と対話する時間となりましたら幸いです。

Tosei Kyoto Gallery is pleased to present “Sign”, a solo exhibition by ceramic artist Mayu Saito, who has been exploring new forms with a free spirit while drawing upon the traditions of Kutani ware from Kanazawa.
In this exhibition, alongside art pieces created with a conscious focus on the theme, visitors will also find tea bowls, sake cups, and other functional vessels. She values the process of shaping clay through the sensitivity of her own mind and body, quietly asking: “What arises in the hearts of those who see these works?” Meaning does not exist from the beginning—it emerges through the experience of feeling.
We hope this exhibition becomes a place for such gentle dialogue to unfold.
